I have been looking at the course structure of the first year of a maths degree and it seems to be universal for every university. Except I am told I will be studying calculus, algebra and applied maths which isn't very helpful.

I know the algebra section has matrices in it so I am going to learn the inverse of 3x3 and revise them. However I don't really know what else specifically makes up the calculus and algebra modules.

Could someone give me a list of the types of things I will be learning in my first year?

I'm trying to do this research myself. There are a couple of good books out there,

How to think like a mathematician or How to study a maths major.

Also some good youtube vids eg

Surely your university should provide a spec/syllabus?

Here's a reasonably detailed list from my University:

But be aware that universities are not all the same! Here's the equivalent list from Cambridge.

    Pure is beautiful mathematics.

For some students (in fact for most) it is ...
    I belong to the minority.
