# Discriminant watch

1. What have I done wrong?

Need to find the value of k.

3. It's just that you took the '+17' to the other side, so it becomes -17
4. Super simple, you shifted the 17 to the other side of the '=' sign without making it negative

I really get annoyed at that

even worse ... I do not understand why does it happen?

Perhaps for people living on the equator where the ground is sideways

15 years of maths and I make the stupidest mistake I was looking at it for ages trying to figure out where I went wrong. Thanks so much

I suppose I could've rotated it.

I tried to rotate the second pic and my phone wouldn't let me.

I didn't spot any mistakes? That answer would make sense if the coefficient a was positive

So do you think it was a mistake in the textbook answers? *fingers crossed*

I think so

But get confirmation from the god himself TeeEm

Btw it would be minus 17/16

Check the question - is the coefficient of the quadratic term negative?

At the end did you remember to subtract 17 from both sides? You seem to have a positive answer ...

Technology is a nasty business. What appears right side up on your phone or tablet or even your computer is secretly the wrong way round unless you take it the right way round on your device.

Also, can't rep you (as always) for your funny cat photo.

Sir in the second pic of hers, is she correct in her working and the answer is wrong?

(Except that she missed the minus at the end)

I do not own a smart phone ...
I take pictures with a camera or scanner.

Yeah I realised when I checked but didn't write it down because was irrelevant to the correct answer they've provided. I'm just going to double check the question. Thanks
