I've just been set this task too, and being a mature applicant it's been a lot of years since I wrote an essay and I'm incredibly nervous. Can anyone offer any pointers at all? TIA

Hi, it was over a year ago that I wrote that essay and had forgotten about it. I ended up writing about the importance of social work from a sociology perspective, so from a functionalist, Marxist and symbolic internationalist perspective. The lecturer at the interview said it was an unusual approach and asked me to explain why I choose that. It must have been ok because I was offered a place and have almost finished the first year. Another way of doing it is looking at why it is important for the individual, a community and society as a whole, so split it into 3. I'm a mature student too.

    Hope that helps

I'm so sorry I didn't even look at the year of the thread! That is really helpful though, thank you. I think I know the perspective I am going to go from, I'm just apprehensive about material to reference as the online journals etc that would have been available to me when on my Undergrad course aren't now and it states in guidance notes that it is important to use these, but I'm sure I will find something. Thank you so much for your advice, I really do appreciate it and I hope you are enjoying the course
