Closing of Rosser/Cwrt Mawr Bars

I think most people are aware Rosser is closing as a bar at the end of this year (why?!), but I've now heard that Cwrt Mawr bar will only be staying open another year before closing. Obivously I'm guessing the Llanbadarn bar will be closing too when the accomodation is closed down at the end of this year. This leaves the union as the only place for drinking on campus.....Anybody know anything about what the university's thinking is behind this?! I know Rosser is rumoured to become an internet cafe, which is surely going to be less profitable than the bar for a start.....

Dammit. So I book my accomodation at Rosser, and now they close the damn bar?

It aint that much if a loss. Cwrt Mawr is right next door, and it's cheaper than Rosser bar :p:, although Rosser rocks for sporting events.

I can't see Cwrt Mawr closing though. Unlike Rosser [and PJM bar before it], which are/were University run, Cwrt Mawr is Union run, so I really can't see it closing then the main Union becoming the only drinking establishment on campus, and you can't exactly go there for a quiet drink most nights either.

It isn't the cheapest, but I like Rosser, it's a good place to go if you just want to go out for a couple of drinks without a full night out.... I have heard it's not doing very well recently but the internet cafe seems a ridiculous idea to me! Expecially when most people have computers/there's computer rooms in all halls anyway! :s
Never really been to Cwrt Mawr bar much.
When did PJM bar close down then?

PJM closed the year before I came I think.

Speaking from as an outsider, I've been to Rosser bar twice. Once on invitiation of another student and then once to get on open day. It seems mad to make it into an internet cafe, everyone has a computer now!

I didn't know there was a bar at Cwrt Mawr though, that's interesting.

Rosser was only recently done out too, with all the new sofas etc. Cwrt Mawr bar is just beind Rosser, it's smaller though.
Is the Llanbadarn one really closing? I mean, the halls are closing but the Refectory is staying open and things like that.

God, why are they closing all the bars?! Are they trying to deny us an on-campus social life? No fair! And this from a non-drinker; now you know it's a crazy thing to do

I know from my experience last year living on campus that Rosser bar was never all that busy unless there was a game showing. It was a bit more expensive than the Union and therefore i think more people went there, also the staff in Rosser could be bitches sometimes.

Also i guess more and more people are skipping Rosser and Cwrt Mawr bars and going straight into town.

I've noticed Rosser often tends to be pretty dead during the week, is sometimes busier on Fridays if people go to a drink before the union etc...
Apparently it hasn't made as much money since it was refurbished... there is a Facebook group about it somewhere.

Cwrt Mawr was also done out last summer, when we came back in September we found new seating and new flooring. Cwrt Mawr might be smaller, but I much prefer it to Rosser, it has more of a cosy, homely feel, unlike Rosser which feels like an airport departure lounge. However, I do not see the point in closing it to make way for either an internet cafe, or, if the rumours on Facebook are correct, just an empty shell.

I heard Rosser used to serve food, could they turn it into a cafe or something? One thing I think we do need on campus is another eating establishment during the day.
