I am keen to either apply for law or sociology and politics. I am wondering if I don't take modern studies at advanced higher will I be disadvantaged? Would taking 4 new crash highers in 6th year weaken my chances of acceptance if I don't take any advanced highers at all? I am the only one out of all my friends not to be taking at least one advanced higher so was just wondering, thanks.

You don't need advanced highers for unis, so you should be fine. Advanced highers are really just first year uni work, so it may help you in that way but you don't have to do them.
