Classics A-Level- Watch

    • Thread Starter

Hello everyone. I'm asking a subject specific question here- Classical Civilisation at AS/A2 Level.
My school (and where I will be attending sixth form) have course outlines for each individual course, and I have the Classics one here with me at this moment.

It says "Those who enjoyed subjects such as English Literature, History, Religious Studies, Art and Sociology are likely to find Classical Civilisation appealing".

    The problem here is:
English Literature- Don't get me wrong, I enjoy it, but I don't think I'd be able to cope 2 more years, particularly if I have to analyse more texts and how they suit a certain theme etc.
History- I don't particularly like history (read more below), and as such I dropped it for GCSE, an act which I do not regret at all.
Religious Studies- I don't mind the religion aspects, to an extent, but it isn't something I really enjoyed as such
Art- Just detest. However, I'm quite appreciative of art in many different forms- in classical terms, I adore mosaics and architecture, per se, but my artistic skills are less useful than a chocolate teapot.
Sociology- Although I've enjoyed sociology, and haven't found it difficult at all, I am deemed to get A* in it, however, I have become a little bored over time by it all.

The only subject I have done for GCSE and which I have enjoyed is Latin, for which I am the only candidate in the school, and am en route to getting an A or A*.

So I ask- is it worth taking something if I enjoy the aspects of Classical History that I know about already and considering I don't particularly enjoy many of the subjects listed? I will also ask- is Classics truly seen as a good subject by universities, or is it seen as a slightly soft subject (and I mean no harm to anyone; it is just my Classics-A-Level-Naive-Mind speaking here!)?

If it helps, I have also decided to take: French, English Language, Drama and Theatre Studies, and AS Dance.

[My knowledge in history is much more related to Classics due to my Latin scholastic background].

If anyone has any experience in the Classical Civilisation A-Level, your help would be greatly appreciated!

    Gratias vosti, omnes.
