Exams Oh God, can't cope

Some of you might have an idea who I am, on here on another account. If you do, please don't refer to me under that username.

I have exams starting in from tomorrow little over three weeks and I simply can't cope. I have so much new stuff to learn and even though I've studied a lot there's still so much to do and I simply don't hav ethe time.I just don't know what to do. My tutors arn't exactly that approachable and there is stufdff i have still to learn for the first time. I dont know why I'm posting here jsut desperately nedd to blurt it all out, tried calling my parents who probably for the first time in my life dont seem to be there to answer the phone. I have a project to do that counts to my exam for 4 days time but I dont get anything. I dont think ive been this scared or miserable in my life. I need to do well to go on to graduate study but that is not going to haapen.

Every time I start looking at my work I feel scared and faint. I keep thinking of all the occasions i procrastinated and how much better off i'd been if i hadnt wasted time etc
Get some perspective. Looking back at what you haven't done is wasting the time you do have - I've spent the majority of this year doing that.
You should break what you need to do into little chunks. Often in exams, you don't have to learn everything to do well, just concentrate initially on the topics you're good at, which will make you feel better. Set a target for tomorrow for example, where you'll try and cover 1 topic so that you'll be confident on it. And come tomorrow, forget everything else, just do that one thing and make sure you do it well!

Trust me, a couple of steps into revision and the weight will shift quickly from your shoulders. It's never too late. 3 weeks is a long time man. Just think, even 6 hours a day means 126 hours!!! That's a lot.

If you keep worrying, you're just wasting valuable time. And when it all seems too much, just chuck on your favourite music and sit and listen to it for 10 mins to calm yourself down.

Perhaps you haven't worked as hard as you could have this year. But the point is that you can't change that. Now, you have three weeks left and in three weeks of straight revision you can cram a lot in. It doesn't have to stay there any longer than the exams. Set yourself little rules such as no revising before breakfast - it means you won't feel guilty you're not revising from the off but you will get hungry and eat and then after that you'll have to force yourself to do some.
It's too late today to do any and you shouldn't even try. I reckon you should get off the computer and go to bed. Tomorrow, you can start properly.

I have around 100 topics to do and have done about 60ish. Thing is I need to rerevise all the 60 which I doubt I remember and the 40 that are left are the hardest complifated stuff. and then there is the project I'm supposed to which like a fool I leftto almost the last minute (bevcause i was trying to revise) and now I'm screwed totally. There are people in my group who have done all their revision and project and are now rerevising. I had planned to be in that position but mucked everything up.

Erm, no offence, but you're being a touch ridiculous.

I know people get worked up about all sorts, but put it this way: if this is really the greatest problem you've had in your life so far you are a very lucky girl.

So.... deep breaths, count to ten slowly and then realise that you are actually not too badly off. You probably know more than you think and still have over three weeks to revise. Also, frankly, get off bloody TSR and stop wasting time. If you want a break from revision don't do 5 minutes on TSR then back to work for another 10 and then onto Facebook or TSR again. Go for a run, go for a walk, go for lunch, go for coffee, go to sleep - take a decent break and then get back to work.

It's not the worst problem I've had in my life FYI, but at the moment it seems the most insurmountable. That's all. And given I can't seem to get in contact with anyone IRL to talk to, I thought I'd turn to TSR. Hardly a crime?

Anyway, I'm off to bed, thank you to those who at least made me feel a little bit better.

No problem! :p:

Good luck with the rest of the revision and the exams - I am sure you'll do really well. You sound dedicated anyway... which is probably why you're giving yourself a hard time.

Hah. It's funny that you should post this thread. I had a hysterical crying fit today because I think I can't cope with exams. A good way of dealing with this is by thinking that the only way you can allieviate the stress is by studying as you think you are under prepared.

Also, I've PMed you a link to my uni's counselling website. They've got some useful material there.

Good luck. Remember, you are not alone. These exams are not the end of the world and you really shouldn't be stressing out about exams at this stage as there are a lot of other things to worry about.
Its never the end of the world. I very nearly failed my first year because although I was taking a dual-honours degree, I ignored one subject for the entire year (OK I went to 2 lectures, then got bored and did nothing from then on). It came to the week before my assessment which was a portfolio of about 15 mini-projects and 2 public concerts () and I realised I was going to be kicked out of uni.

Anyway, I tried to switch subjects, but was told I had to pass in order to switch. Cried myself to sleep one night, then thought "Forget this, I've gotta pass this course" and just about managed to pull together a half-finished, but submittable portfolio and music for the 2 concerts. Was one of the scariest things I ever did, but I did pass (just about) and was allowed to switch course afterwards.

Just do as much as you can do. You are in a better situation now than I was then and you sound much more dedicated than I was! I know you've now gone to bed, but I just want to reassure you when you read this that although it seems like the end of the world, you can do this

What's always helpful is visualising the end product. If you apply yourself, even now when you seem to think it's "too late", there's always going to be a good result at the end of the hard graft. That is, if you get your head down and graft hard.
jesus my exams start in like 5 days or something and i havnt even started revising yet..and will also have to learn things for the first time due to lecture skipping....****
I feel the same :frown: just revise as much as you can and do your best, if you don't do that well it's not the end of the world and you can always retake, good luck x

haha ditto, welcome to our world! I have coursework due in two days ago but managed to scrounge an extension 'till monday when it's being sent of to the examminer... bout 20% done. So look on the bright side, there are people worse off than you.

Just chill. Break it down, sort out what needs to be done by when, and go from there. there more you brea it down, the easier it is to digest - BITESIZE lol. but seriously, you aren't getting anything done on here. Go do your project and then you can relax and just concentrate on exams.

This thread is making me feel like ****.

Anyway, worrying about lost time is only going to make you panic more, which will make it harder to revise and retain information... so stop stressing yourself for a start. The fact that you've realised now is probably a good sign, because you have enough time to fix it - so it isn't the end of the world just yet.

I'd say make a list of all the modules you need to know, and set yourself daily targets, obviously plan these according to how much time you have left and do revise modules tactfully; i.e. don't concentrate on areas you are good at or know most on, as you may run out of time to cover everything (tougher modules will require more work, besides, you don't need to know every detail of every module for exams - only you know what you need to do). Try and dedicate the time you have left from now on for your revision (after your project is out the way) and take regular short breaks. You'll find that as you hit your set targets, you'll start to feel better knowing you're getting things done, and hopefully you'll be motivated enough to keep going until exams are done with.

Hope that's of some help. Now don't panic, stop wasting time and give it your best shot.

Hey guys!

Thanks  I feel a lot better after (by my standards :p: ) good night's sleep :p: It's nice to see other people elsewhere are in a similar boat, helps put things in perspective. Plus I bet, knowing people here, half of those people who say they've done all their revision haven't. I mean I was working 9/10 hrs a day through the Easter hols revising and if I HAVEN'T then meh. I'm dismissing what they say as a psychological ploy

Unless you're in a really odd program, you don't need to cover every subject. I assume you'll have a choice of questions to answer, and you don't need to answer those questions perfectly to pass. What you have to do is learn the basics very well, and then cover the topics that appeared often on prior exams. If you do that and still have some free time, go over the other topics. Knowing 50% of the topics well will get you a far better grade than knowing a small amount about 90% of the topics.
