Why is oxygen a waste product in the process of photosynthesis?

    It just is.
Plants can do two important things: Use energy from the sun to turn CO2 (carbon dioxide) and H2O (water) into sugar (C6H12O6) with oxygen (O2) left over.

But oxygen isn't a waste product for humans, only to plants, but then why does the process of photosynthesis make glucose and oxygen. Why not just glucose?

That's because humans need oxygen for respiration, we don't need carbon dioxide because we don't photosynthesise.
Oxygen is made because when you react glucose and carbon dioxide you're left with oxygen.
