Ford Fusion

Been looking at some of these on the internet and they seem quite appealing. I particularly like the idea of the high up driving position - (not quite as high as a 4x4 I don't imagine but more so than a "normal car"). I also quite like the chunky styling, it holds some kind of appeal which I can't quite put my finger on, and they're kind of individual since there aren't many on the road. The thing that is putting me off a little is that many people seem to think they are ugly. What do you think?

Thats fairly subjective, I dont see the point and I have heard them described as dull. As for mechanically and reliability wise, I have never heard of any problems with them (Not that ive looked) and most new Fords are fairly well built.

Heres a review of it http://www.topgear.com/drives/B4/C8/

I personally think it's ugly, but if you like then I'd take it for a test drive and see what you think of it.

Have a look for it on Parkers, they always do good reviews. For that sort of money though I'd go for a Citroën C2 VTS. Might be a grand or so more, but I like it

Why would you want to sit high up?

Surely low down is better so you can get a better feel for the road, not forgetting bodyroll etc. Low looks better aswell.

Depends how much you need the extra space.... It's basically a Fiesta that's been extended in every direction - It loses some of the style, but apparently has a very decent ride although height doesn't help the handling too much. Are you thinking of buying new? the base models will be v.low spec, and it was only given the mild facelift in the last year, previous cars don't have the same chunky styling.

You would go for a Citroen instead of a Ford?! I wouldn't, the build quality in the C2 is atrocious for a start.

A fusion?

Oh dear. Why. Just, why. Why subject yourself to a car that was built for a niche that doesnt exist? Get something small and nimble. High driving is for 4X4's, Vans, Lorries, Tractors and people carriers. Not small cars.

I actually have a fiesta. I've got the older shape (2002) but my brother has the new one (2004) and it's a great car, really is, but I just think if I had the money I'd go for the Citroen C2 VTS. Oh, and I think the sportKa looks silly, although in that video it seems like a great car, handelling looked amazing for a little car like that, but the citroen did win. Also going back to the Fusion, it seems a bit pointless, cos the new fiesta is pretty spacious as it is...

Oh i agree the Fusion is pointless, but i would hardly say the C2 VTS is a better buy than the Ford! The build quality in Fords is so much better, the reliability, resdiduals, and a better drive in the Ford.

As far as I can gather, the supposed point of the Fusion is for people who need more space than the Fiesta has, but can't afford a Focus....
And for price comparison, you could get a new Fiesta Zetec S for about £100 more than a C2 VTR ...

Hmmm it's strange.... I actually don't really like the Fiesta styling yet I like the Fusion :s-smilie: although I think I might be the only (young) person that thinks this...

You want to sit up high?
Spend a grand on a Rangerover Vogue and spend what you save on petrol for that glorious 3.9 litre V8.

Interesting! In the US market the Ford Fusion is a completely different vehicle altogether: http://forum.avtoindex.com/foto/data/media/37/ford_fusion_2006_5.jpg

Yeah, American Fusion would be a much better choice! But now we have the new Mondeo, which is about to released and looks like it's going to be a brilliant car (well as far as large family hatches go....).

Ford actually tried selling that car in the US 1995 through 2000. It was dropped because of poor sales. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Contour

The US Ford Fusion is the long overdue replacement for the unloved Mondeo.
Dont buy a fusion.

I use to work for Ford....and they are sooo hard to sell and i knew that they would come back within a short amount of time for any number of faults.

Share most of the fiesta and they are usually extremely reliable, but the fusion, are just crap.... they are very functional tho, clever bits and pieces but not a good car!

But then again, dont by french either... even bigger mistake!
