Anti depressants...selectivity?

Im currently taking 40mg of Citalopram a day to help with my depression and anxiety but Im finding that I basicaly still feel like absolute crap during the day and still dont have enough motivation to even get out of my bed at the right time in the morning so Im thinking of changing to a different anti depressant which would most likely be prozac. All I know about the differences between prozac and citalopram is that prozac is less selective than citalopram. Citalopram being the 'most selective' anti depressant. But I have no idea what this means...any help?

if i had to guess i'd say it had something to do with the specificity of action, ie something more selective only influences one neurotransmitter rather than a more general mechanism of action. or something like that. but i really have no idea. given you clearly have a doctor or psychiatrist to be on medication, why not ask them? you don't really want to go off advice from a forum like this for something like meds...

I've been on many different pills and potions in my time and I can safely say that nothing beats depression like regular exercise ;yes; You'll often find that you dont need medication at all.

Selectivity regarding drugs refers to their mechanisim of action, the more selective a drug the fewer side effects and the narrower the mode of action.

I have been on this on 20mg a day for 2 weeks now, I felt absolutely crap and really sick for the first week, and also suddenly bloody high for a short period. Then I have gone back to how I was before I started the treatment since. Nothing has really changed so far. Apart from I am not shaking as much as I was, but still shaking a lot... My doctor is probably gonna put me on 40mg when I see her on Monday... lovely...

I was under the impression it took 3-4 weeks before massive effects in mood were noticed?
Maybe just give it more time?

Yeah, I would say 3-4 weeks. Well that was about the time before I noticed any affect from 20mg citalopram.

That is a big dose.
Perhaps you should be trying Lexapro (a racemic SSRI ) http://www.lexapro.com/ or Edronax ( a NARI ) http://reboxetine.com/ instead.
