Calling all Birmingham student nurses

So I am a second year adult student nurse at Keele university and I have a 3 week elective in September.
I really want to do it in one of the hospitals in Birmingham.
I've got a lot of relatives and friends scattered around there, so accommodation should be fine.

I'm looking for any suggestion where to go, hospital and ward.

Areas which you've been to and really found the time there fulfilling.
I can spend 1 week in each area.

A good place to start would be to know what areas of practice interest you?

I'm not sure yet. No where I've been so far has quite been where I'm really interested in.
Don't get me wrong I enjoy my time in each placement but nothing has quite caught my interest.

Hence wanting suggestions from fellow students on areas with great staff and learning opportunities.

I presume seeing as you've family here you're familiar with the city?

As an adult student there's three hospital trusts here you're likely to consider, Sandwell and West Birmingham hospitals, UHB (which is the Queen Elizabeth) and Heart of England Foundation trust. The QE is a regional trauma centre, so it's got all the specialities that go along with that, they also have teenage cancer trust ward. City and Sandwell are smaller, but if poisons is something that interests you then they have a specialist ward for that over at city. Heartlands is what used to be an old chest hospital, the legacy of this is that they have a ward for CF patients, an infectious diseases ward and are a centre for thoracic (lung) surgery.

There's loads of different options, it'd be a lot easier to make some suggestions for you if I had a bit of an idea what sorts of things interest you, even if it's just a vague area of a speciality.

I've realised I really love assessment wards, ones like Acute Medical Unit (AMU) and Surgical Assessment Unit (SAU).
Is there an equivalent to that in the QU? Been trying to look them up but you know what it's like sometimes
