Excluding General Studies?

I have got offers from universities who say in their prospectuses that General Studies is not included in their entry requirements. However, in my offers it just says BBC but there is no mention of not including General Studies. Does that mean that one of these grades, BBC, could be in General? I don't want to ask them because they might say it would not be included... don't want to give them the chance!

Actually, somebody at my school received an offer which did not explicitly mention that General Studies was excluded from the offer. When this guy got his results, the university was reluctant to accept General Studies as part of his offer (even though they had not explicitly stated otherwise) and the school was forced to get involved. Apparently the university had to back down. In the offer - they must state explicitly the points/grades and (if necessary) in which subjects they wish you to achieve them in. As far as I know, this is usually done by them stating "Not including General Studies" (or words to that effect) or more succinctly "In the following subjects", of which General Studies is NOT then named. If this hasn't occurred, you may have a case.

Oooh good, thank you! One of the offers I declined specifically stated 'ABB excluding General Studies' but this didn't. Thanks a lot, i now have a case!

For which uni and course do you have an offer which has no mention of General Studies in it?

Neither of them say General Studies is not included on my offer but on the UCAS site the general requirement says its excluded.

The other offer was from KCL which actually said it was excluded. Got rejected from both Imperial and UCL.

Hmm, this is sticky though, the situation that I have described to you may be the exception - not the rule. What I have said is based purely on the comments of a careers teacher at my school, who was reporting an incident which occured last year.

His overall message was actually to contact the admissions staff prior to the publication of results (and preferably ASAP) if you are in any doubt about the nature of your offer. You may want to give them a ring and ask, if you feel that you have been misinformed after doing this - then let the relevant members of staff at your school know.

I wouldn't advise sitting on this until results day, personally.

Ooh, I'm scared now! I'm going to speak to my school on Thursday. If they say it is excluded, I will have to do very well in Physics on Monday! :smile:
