    Hey TSR,

I wanted to know if there is any options for myself. I am currently doing a foundation year in computer science as an access course to study computer science at UWE due too poor a-level results. I am currently getting great results for my exams and assignments, >90% in all modules currently in the first semester and the entry requirements is only to achieve 55% average. I asked my tutor about surpassing expectations of the university, and all he had to say was getting good results in your foundation year 'gives you a proud achievement', nothing more. So essentially I'm being told there is no point of doing well and working hard, because nothing is gained out of it, except pride.

I was wondering if there are options out there. I really want to apply for and different,/maybe Russell group university, but I left it late for UCAS. Do I have any other options than to go to UWE to study for 3 years? Is clearing an option?

    Thanks.

You can submit a late application through UCAS. The January deadline applies to the most popular courses so as you've missed that you need to do a bit more research before sending your UCAS application off...but in your situation you need to do this research anyway

Get on UCAS course search for courses that are still open - come up with a longlist of about 10-15 universities you're interested in and then start phoning and emailing. Explain your situation and your current results and which course you're applying for year 1 entry into. Each uni should be able to give you some indication of whether they're
    a) still open for late applications
    and
    b) whether your Year 0 at UWE is suitable preparation for their degree

If their answers are positive then they can go on your short list.

At the same time start filling out your UCAS application and speak to your UWE tutor about providing a reference. Applying elsewhere doesn't commit you to leaving UWE so this shouldn't be a problem - explain that you'd like to explore your options at other universities as well as UWE and ask for a reference.

Thanks for the info! I am getting on that right away and will e-mail a list of universities. What should my personal statement showcase. I have my interest and statement from last year. Is it a good idea to explain the situation That I am studying a foundation year and had unfortunate results in a-levels but looking and proving that I am more hard working and motivated?
