Stress. No one to talk to.

I know this time of year is a stressful time for all students, but I have noone I can talk to so I'll vent it on here.

I'm at uni studying english and I only have two exams- in just over a weeks' time. The past month or so I have been working so hard, I stay up late, get up early to revise and spend all day in the library. I now feel physically and mentall drained, and my boyfriend keeps telling me he's worried about me. I do agree and yeah I do want a break from my work occassionally.

So go out is the answer. Except, whenever I make plans to go out, they let me down at the last monutes, meaning I spend the rest of day getting more and more stressed, breaking down in tears. The same thing happened today. And I can't take it anymore. I'm not expecting to go out loads during exams, but all I ask for is a quiet drink for a couple of hours. Is that too much to ask? :frown:

Don't know what I'm expecting from this thread, just hate not having anyone I can talk to without worrying about them getting fed up with me. :frown:

Poor thing :frown: I know what it's like when everyone's busy and you just want to take a break! Is there nothing your boyfriend wants to do together? Take every other evening off if you're working all day, and make sure you're getting enough fresh air and exercise!

I wish I only had two exams instead of the 6 which start on Monday
My boyfriend has gone home for the weekend, and tbh I don't want him to get the impression that he's the only one I go out with. I'm so pathetic.

And tufts, wish i had 6 exams too. Would give me motivation to stay in and work more :s-smilie:

I think you need to calm down and put things into perspective.

Are you a first year? If so, don't panic about these exams too much! I don't know about your uni but at mine the results don't count towards your final grade. I'm not saying that's an excuse to slack off and do no work but in the grand scheme of things, as long as you do well enough to progress to Yr 2 it's not going to matter hugely what you get. I very much doubt there's a need to revise all day every day for a month for two exams, and obviously you're running yourself into the ground, so cut back. Besides, if you're so tired then you won't get your best work done. A smaller amount of more effective revision must be better than more of it, but of worse quality!

I completely understand that you want to do well, but at the expense of your health? That's not a good idea. It's all about getting the balance right.

Maybe it would also be a good idea to learn to enjoy time on your own? At the moment all my friends and my boyfriend are busy with assignments, revision and whatever so none of us really have any time to go out. There are others ways than going out to take a break! Find a good book you want to read or start a video game or something. Or you could go for a walk. I've just started a new book and a new game so when I want some time off, I just do that. Ooh and shopping's a good one too.

Most of all though, calm down! It's not worth crying over really, it'll all be over soon. Just make your main priority looking after yourself and the rest will come with it.

I know how you feel! I'm so stressed about exams that when I knocked over a glass of water I promptly started crying. :frown:

:hugs: i cried because i heard the tap dripping. It is annoying though to be fair!
To me, it seems like even though I have one day a week break, that the days where I do revise just seem long and endless. If someone asks me what I did one week now, I'm always like "Errr...." cos I honestly have no recollection. The endless days make me cry.

How's it going now SE? :hugs:

I find the more you revise = the more confident you become = the less stressed ^_^
I have 15 exams..and slightly more confident every day
OK, I know that maybe you might not feel comfortable with it etc  but maybe ring your parents (if you have a good relationhip with them) and have a chat? I feel rubbish with work too and it's really helped.
Parents is a good idea
Will ring them tomorrow...I reckon I'm one of the few people who looks forward to a phone call from their mummy

Ah, I'm doing an exam on Monday at 9 on a day and a half of revision.

This session of exams is the first that I've really been stressed in.

I haven't found much that helps thus far.

Nice to see I'm not the only one who crams before an exam! I love short-term memory. Don't stress the fact you are cramming must mean you know your stuff.
2 exams isn't that much, I have 4 exams and I'm not stressing at all. I think you're just working yourself up about it all too much. I think you are studying too much too. You needs break or else to do get drained. Go out with your bf if you have to. Do you know the work? if you do there's no need to study every second of the day.
It's probably one of the most worst positions to be in, stressed and with no one to talk to, but I guess there are many wonderful people on TSR that will be willing to listen to you, and help you through this tough phase!
