My issue is, Mps who are remote, or need to travel a long way to Westminster, may have higher expenses than most. I'm thinking Northern Irish Mps, and maybe those from the Scottish islands etc. Their expenses are higher than those of other Mps, meaning- should a base rate be paid, their relative salary would be lower than that of any other MP, with little expenses.

There is 1 MP in particular, with so much travelling to do [Jim Shannon from Northern Ireland] his 200k expenses would leave him with a -25k salary
This is compensated by the fact that NI and Scottish MPs pay much less for their accommodation than those living in the South East.

May still not be as much. We won't be able to make it 100% perfectly fair

If you prove yourself to be active up until the election, the Speaker would most likely let you stand. It's more so to stop people turning up, winning a seat, and becoming inactive

You'll actually find that MP salaries are incredibly low

Ah, but not as low as Norway's.

No, that section of the GD is binding as per the constitution. So the speaker can't ignore it and let him stand.

Can they join governments? I don't remember any provision for that.
    (Original post by hazzer1998)
I'm pretty sure that there was a Con/ukip government with a Independent when rakas was PM and tory leader
The glorious 15th parliament saw Jpkc as an independent join the Tory-Ukip coalition albeit he did this mainly to piss off Mechie and i sadly had to eject him when he doctored Mechie's Ad Hoc interview (it's still around if you find the first edition). Personally i thought it was hilarious but Toronto was more displeased and he lied to us when given the opportunity to confess.

That was back in Faland's crazy days. In that same term he duped the Liberals and VoNC'd Morgsie and then eventually joined the Socialists who he almost led to essentially performing a coup over Labour via seat sharing.

I've courted independents since but most actually want to stay out of coalitions.

It's to prevent someone running and not getting any votes.

That shouldn't be an issue imo. If you're allowed to run you should be allowed to vote, so that would solve that issue.

That's the point, you can't run until you can vote. It's like banning a 10 year old being an MP.

Personally, for someone who is making key decisions, and is highly educated, £76,000 is not enough. This is also based upon asking this question to 5 mps. I would raise it, to about £90,000.

Quite an assumption, considering how I support the junior doctors. I would make medicine's tuition fees nill (as per UKIP's policy irl).

It's not really an assumption, the average JD is better qualified than the average MP, the fact that MP's tweet in awe at a Speaker who "works" for 10 hours when junior docs do this regularly also disproves that. Reducing tuition fees wouldn't be the way I'd do it and it doesn't address the working conditions at all.

Maybe you got me wrong, I was talking about how you assumed that I do not support the junior doctors. As I said, I do. From my experience, MPs have zero free time and work all-day. As soon as they 'end' work, they have to keep up with constituancy and national news and so forth. Therefore in how many hours they work, I think they exceed junior doctors. However, Junior doctors are in a much more presured enviroment, so those hours are harder spent.
