Expect cleaning, and lots of it! Most likely you will spend the morning feeding animals and then cleaning their enclosures. For dogs this will be sweeping, disinfecting and hosing down the pens, for cats this will be wiping down all surfaces with disinfectant, mopping the floor, and changing litter trays. Be sure to make a note of any vomit/diarrhoea seen in the pens. When all the cleaning is done you may be able to walk the dogs.

Questions-wise, depending on the type of kennel it is you could ask about vaccinations (what do animals need to be allowed to stay), breeds (temprements, special needs of certain breeds, Dangerous Dogs Act), diet (allergies, weight loss) and about animal body language.

This guide may be worth a read.
