I'm struggling with what to take for A-levels - what subjects are the most respected and most interesting? (I'm more of an academic person than artistic).

Well I'm doing Biology, Chemistry and Maths at the moment, and as hard as it is. I'm loving it.
Biology - there is just so much content, and you have to keep going back to what you did a week ago because you really do forget it
Chemistry - Sometimes it takes a while to sink in and you have to make sure you understand it well
    Maths - Pretty logical

Thanks! I'm also worried my A level results will be a lot lower than my GCSEs, is that the case?

Well.. i think its more due to how hard you work.
I know a few people who didnt do very well in their GCSE's but that gave them the motivation to work harder for a levels.
So its really up to how much effort you put into it , and also how much you enjoy the subject

At the end of the day you should pick the courses YOU want to do... Always choose the subjects you enjoy.

I do AS Law, Psychology, Maths and Biology and seriously regret psychology as it is very boring imo.
Maths and Bio are my favourites and I chose them because I enjoyed them at high school and I still love them now

If youre thinking of doing any of these subjects don't hesitate to ask
