I have just failed my first year of my sociology degree (again) I was retaking my first year. I wanted to be a social researcher. Now I feel like there is no point to life. Has anyone failed/dropped out of uni and been successful?????

Yes people fail. I know you must be feeling awful, but you are young and you can recover. If you need to talk then consider your student counseling service or the samaritans if it gets bad.

Im sure you coul still get to be a social researcher from another route.

Draw up a to do list.
Go and see tutor. When ready find out why you are not coming to terms with the course. Decide what your options are. Decide if you are suited to the course or the subject. You need to know what went wrong and what can be put right. Maybe you could convert into a foundation year?

Im sure your tutors know why you are scoring low and maybe a fiundation year could help you improve the basic skills? There may be ways round it so do ask and talk to the right people.
    hang in there.
