Manchester. My checks have been completed for about 3 weeks, just getting my hopes up that they sent me a start date super quick haha
How long did it take from filling the DBS form online till getting the checks completed?

It shouldn't be any longer than a week - 10days tops

I'm starting in Liverpool on 14/12 - will I definitely be paid at the end of December for the half month I work? I'm getting paid for the half of the month I'll be working in my current job on 16/12 but definitely need the other half for rent and bills!
I would not bank on getting paid at the end of December. The payroll cut off date is always earlier that month due to the bank holidays, so it'll really be touch and go. In normal months, new starters starting mid month usually find they have to wait until the end of the following month.

Payroll cut off date at hmrc will be 19th December, if your registered on payroll by then you should get paid but only if your an external candidate. If your transferring from another government department then your current department will pay you for the full month and hmrc takes over the following month and bumps up your wages to account for your new pay.

    Thank you.

I'm external, do you think the chances of me being registered on payroll by then is high?

Yeh, just make sure your on top of it when you start. Be sure to submit your new starter declaration so you get taxed correctly because I doubt your previous work place would have submitted their final pay submission for you so you won't have any p45 details on hmrc systems yet! NEW starter Dec don't forget!

Hi thanks for the info, I'll check it out.
In the email I received, it says I have to report to Gregor Alexander at 10am.
    Are you currently working there?
Oh wow! I used to work with Gregor at DWP years ago! Small world!

Emailing is pointless. Try get a number for CSR ( Civil Service Resourcing) . Get straight to the point as that's only way to chase it up. You shouldn't be waiting that long for checks to complete
Do you know a number for them because I've struggled to find one?

Have you been called in to Leeds office to hand in your documents as they would have expired by now??

    Posted from TSR Mobile
No I haven't. I've never been to the office because I originally applied through the Tax Specialist programme where they took copies of my documents at the assessment centre

Similar position to you. Finished uni in July and just carried on with my part time job (well more casual/less than 10 hours a week job) thinking I'd be in full time employment with hmrc. 5 months later and the furthest I've got is pre employment checks passed. If I knew it would take this long I would have looked for a full time job straight after uni. But like you said, you don't know whether to look for full time employment now at risk of having to leave them soon after starting.
It's an absolute nightmare isn't it. When did your status change to pre-employment checks passed?

Yh same here, but some of ur documents would have expired like bank statement so you need to contact them and ask them to give u a time and date so u can go in and provide them with the docs they need as they wont progress until they received these first. Email the bss one as they are notmally gud at replying.

Is there anyone starting in Croydon next week?

I was going to start in Croydon, but I've deferred my start date. I have now idea how long it'll take for another offer to be made, or if it'll be made at all. This whole recruitment process has been such a shambles.

Anybody else deferred and have any idea when they'll hear back?

I was due to start in Croydon next week but due to an 8 week notice i'm trying to defer. they have told me that they only plan intakes 4 weeks in advance so can only ever give 4 week start dates.

They have also said no one will be going into Stratford (my preference) as it isn't built yet and no one will be recruited in to the existing offices.

Who did you speak to about Stratford and the 4 week notice? I was told the same about Stratford but didnt confirm they'll be no placements there. They said that currently they're not recruiting for Stratford and can't confirm the likelihood of any posts there at the moment - so no clear answer.

It was the standard e&c email address.

They said I could be put on the wait list for Stratford and accept a position if it arrives, but there is no guarantee it will anytime soon as the office isn't built yet.

I asked about the possibility of moving to Stratford when it is built and they cannot confirm anything. Also about moving to a central London office until Stratford is built but again they said no.

The entire process has been slow with poor communication. hugely disappointed they couldn't offer me Stratford and that I might not be able to accept it at all due to my notice period.
