You'll get a lot of groans about this thread you know...but I'll go along with it anyway:

Cambridge
Oxford
LSE
Imperial
UCL/Warwick

That's my opinion...but then I may be biased.

No one puts Durham in their top 5 I see.

I'm not complaining btw, most people say they are over rated now (The times league table puts them 10th/ 11th this year)

Ach-it's arguable that Durham could fill that 5th position as well.

But we don't want to get into that debate. Most people on here seem to think spending=goodness of a university.

If you compared the entry requirements (which marks student calibre) I reckon Durham would be right up there. But I've decided to stoically stop fighting the tide of Durham hate.

Anyway Durham is probs only top 10. This is only Top 5. So never mind about that.

Warwick tends to come 6th on league tables but it seems really well respected/great student satisfaction which is I think why some people consider it 5th.

Anyways for history: Cambridge
Oxford
Durham
and the rest is hugely debatable but arguably among Kings, LSE (for International), Warwick, UCL, St Andrews (for Medieval) and Edinburgh.

For history Durham's entry requirements are harder than Oxbridge!
For sheer respect as a university I would put Durham 3rd or 4th as people are always impressed by the name.

That's the thing about it. Durham has an awful endowment compared to London/Oxbridge/Manchester

But, we're all Oxbridge rejects which means we all have top grades! So Durham is a difficult one to judge.

Guys, I really appreciate you posting on this thread that I made. It sort of has given me an idea about the top UK schools (and the top schools for specific field) even if this is not official -- this still has some bearing. But certain things I'd like ask in addition to my original questions:

1. Which school do you go to?
2. What is your major?
3. Which is the better university between Warwick and UCL? -- the reason I ask is because many of you have given the top 6 rather than the top 5 that I originally asked. I only need to know the top 5 UK unis. Please drop the number 6 uni (or yu may indicate it just like what chrissy909 has done.

Again, thank you for posting and I hope to get some more response from the others who have not yet posted.
