I'm interested in applying for a Master's degree in Global Media (or a related subject) in the UK.

Does anyone have any experience in this particular area? Career prospects? I'm open to going on doing research later on but would also like to have the option of going into the media industry (I do know this could be pretty tough). I know there are better courses if you want to be a journalist but I don't mind it being more academic and less hands-on.

I'd like to be as close to Leicester as possible due to having family there, what universities would you apply for in the East Midlands area? I know Global Media is available at both University of Leicester and De Montford, so how would you compare those two? Birmingham, Warwick, Loughborough? What about degree requirements - easy to get in etc? I have a pretty average BA grade-wise but a couple of good references, hopefully.

Any answers to the questions above would be helpful as I'm not from the UK and have never studied there. Thanks.

    Hi Clownio

Our Department of Social Sciences offer a range of courses you might be interested in including MA Global Media and Cultural Industries in which you'll study topics such as media a modernity, communication and citizenship, digital cultures, political marketing etc. You can see more information here.

The Departments was ranked 2nd nationally for Research Quality in the REF2014 (an independent assessment of university research in the UK) so if you are thinking about a PhD later on, check out our research groups here see what our courses can lead to.

The entry requirements are a 2:1 honours degree or above (or the overseas equivalent) in the social sciences or humanities, but we do also consider appropriate relevant professional experience when relevant.

Loughborough is about 12 miles from Leicester with easy rail and road links.

There's more information here on all of our courses and if you need some more in depth information, you can e-mail [email protected] and they will be happy to help.

    Vicky
