Do long-distance relationships actually work? More specifically, do they work if you only get to see each other, say, once a year .. or is better to just be friends and find someone else?

Mine worked because we had a clear plan for when we would eventually not be in a LDR, if you don't have a plan then what's the point? You'll fail at one if you're like 'someday we'll be together' you need to be clear on that and then meet up on a regular basis between that time

    It does and can work.
It never gets any easier when you have to leave to go home, though.

It definitely can work but you need to put in a lot of effort. It will be difficult but if you're committed to each other then there's no reason why it can't work.

They do if you work at them! I've been with my boyfriend 2 years now, we regularly see each other (we're around 350-400 miles apart, both in UK) and Skype as much as we can when we're apart. If you have a plan of where you want things to go then it makes it a lot easier because you know you're working towards actually being together instead of being apart all the time. It's tough, but if you're like me, you don't care about the distance because it means you get to be with the person you love!

Thanks for all the replies. But I'm still not 100% sure if I want to do it. I like this guy who's on the other side of the world (literally) and I've known him nearly all my life. I will hopefully get to see him in a few weeks but I'm not sure if I should tell him I like him since I know that I will only get to see him once or twice a year. Yes I can Skype and talk to him but I don't know if he likes me ... I think he does but what if he says no?
