A well known "good" university, high in league tables.
Or ... a lesser known, small univeristy, that is somewhere that you personally think you will enjoy more and feel more comfortable?

Is the name of your university as important as people make out?

Personally I would say that choosing a university you feel you would enjoy and be comfortable at is better. Even if you go to a really well known, good university, if you don't enjoy the course or you are uncomfortable in your surroundings, then you aren't as likely to do well, so it wouldn't be worth it, in my opinion.

Unless the universities are in the top or bottom five for your subject, their position in league tables is unlikely to be of any interest to an employer - probably not even then, unless it's something like a city finance job. Go to the one which you're most likely to enjoy. As the above poster says - you're more likely to get a good result where you're happy.

A university where you'd feel comfortable, if you went somewhere you didn't like you'd probably just end up dropping out anyway

Cannot really answer this without knowing which unis they are.

Well, it depends entirely on what matters more.

Personally, I think it's foolish to go to, say, Oxford University simply because of the brand but that you know you will hate it there. On the other hand, it's equally foolish to spend thousands of pounds going to an institution that you know will result in little.
