The Student Room Group

Does anyone know the approximate percentiles for a given IB score (out of 42 or 54)?

For example, on the SAT the College Board has stats from each year that give a good approximation to your percentile based on your combined SAT score. I was wondering if anyone knew if any such information is available for IB? I've always wondered "how good" a 40 is compared to a 35 or a 45, and it would be cool to compare my marks with others once I receive them (no point in a great mark when everyone else got it too, right?).

Im also interested in this. The only info i could find is that less than 1% of all students get 45 points, this seems kinda high though (unless it its way less than 1%). We have ~50+ students per year, that would mean 1 person every second year should get a 45. Our school defenetally isnt that good :O

Why bother? Just know that a very small percentage scores above 40 as compared to the total candidates. When IBO last checked, it was ~3%.

Percentage for 45 is somewhere along the line of 0.03% actually
~ 3%?

Cambridge are such ****heads, they expect me to be in that THREE percent. Way to go.

There are too many people in the IB who aren't made for it, thereby lowering the average grades. That 3% infact is pretty large. A 40+ is easily manageable if your interested enough in the IB. Me, I like the whole concept. It's more of a system to manipulate than an education to me. I want a 43 atleast :P

I think she is off by a decimal place, if you look at that pdf it and calculate a bit you will see that 0.28 % of all candidates who take the diploma obtain 45 points. Is your offer for cambridge for 45 points??

I think that is possibly true but do you have any evidence for that?

I think what IS true is thaqt the vast majority of IBers appear to be from the US (and Canada), and many US schools will concentrate on SATs and let IB go a bit.

In Canada, many IB schools kids get their university conditional offers long before sitting the final IB and these uni offers are based on conversions to local exam systems from earlier IB predicted marks, hence the tendancy of the uni to simply say as far as IB is concerned, just pass the diploma...so kids ease up on the throttle. There are alot of bright kids in the US (and Canada) who are sitting IB, but the need to get 6s and 7s just aint there. This is why you'll get silly sounding lowball "offers" from major N Americal unis. They've already assessed you in other ways.....Can't speak for the UK though....but not alot of IBers over there.

I doubt its true. Such information has never been released by the IBO. In 2006 About 90 candidates received a 45
it's about 0.3%... 0.28% actually that got 45 last year. 88 candidates
and 4.25% got 40+
