S11 - Statement on the Acinetobacter Baumannii crisis

Secretary of State: The Rt Hon. Kay_Winters MP

Statement on the Acinetobacter Baumannii crisis
I have, on behalf of the Government, requested the transfer of the Chinese national, Ding Wing, who is suffering from the Acinetobacter Baumannii microbe to the head office of Public Health England from his current location at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast. The medical staff at the head office of Public Health England have greater expertise in this area, which makes this the best possible place to treat the patient. Mr Wing shall be moved from the isolation at the Royal Victoria Hospital and brought to a specialist isolation unit in London where the doctors from the head office of Pubic Health England can give him the best possible care and attention, and I hope both my honourable friends and the honourable members opposite will join me in wishing the best for Mr Wing.

Secondly I have requested that the Royal Victoria Hospital keep the ten individuals who it is thought may have been infected by the Acinetobacter Baumannii microbe in isolation. At this stage it is possible some, or none of them are infected, but we must stay on the side of caution, both for the sake of the ten citizens but also for the wider public, Acinetobacter Baumannii must be stopped in its tracks here and now, it causes not only immense pain in those infected, but can be fatal to the elderly, to those whose immune systems are compromised and those undergoing surgery. Should any of these people show signs of being infected I shall allow them to be transported to join Mr Wing in London at the head office of Public Health England to minimise risk for patients at the Royal Victoria Hospital.

Additionally I have invited numerous medical professionals who are specialists in this area to advise the Government on the best course of action to do with allowing the use of Meropenem, this is a delicate situation due to the risk of new strains of bacteria which are resistant to most of our current anti-biotics, and as such it is not the place for an elected politician to make this decision without detailed knowledge from those most knowledgeable.

Finally it is the wish of the Government to proceed with the vetting process suggested, the first and foremost duty of Government is to protect it's citizens, and if this is what must be done to prevent the spread of Acinetobacter Baumannii then it is what must be done, this disease can be lethal but if we act now we can stop it before it claims lives.

I do question why the Royal Free is not being used given its high-level isolation unit

Well a SoS is no expert, and as such relies on the experts, although I feel free reply and I'll answer how I can, once I stop laughing at the tv show

I also am pleased that the patient is being transferred away from Belfast to specialist care- as Belfast doctors main speciality is dealing with gunshot wounds and bomb blasts, probably more specialist than the mainland

I was thinking it was a slang word and a stereotype, like having a guy called Mohammed bin Patel or Paddy O'Bailey. Oh well.

    Why?
You are imposing your own cultural views on the culture of another ethnicity, which is clearly racism.
