English Literature- Oedipus Rex watch

    Has anyone found any critical quotes on Oedipus they would be alright sharing; i have loads for King Lear but can't find any for Oed.

    I think Aristotle had a lot to say about this play. You might want to read up on his criticism of tragedy, because a lot of his ideas were based on this.

    Have a look at Aristotle's poetics as it breaks tragedy into its component parts and explain why in his opinion Oedipus Rex is the best tragedy. As far as quotes go they do vary a bit from translation to translation but the gist is the same, the quote from Creon saying why he doesn't want to be king is useful as it is similar to Lear's motivations. Also the 'light light light' quote Oedipus says when he realises what has done and the quote from Tiresias about being blind and being able to see. Hope this is some help
