I dont really understand the way in which 'dolly the sheep' was cloned.... In my textbook it says that it is cloned from an adult tissue cell which had totipotency restored..i mean how does an adult cell have totipotency isnt it supposed to lose it and become specialized?

If I remember correctly, the donor nucleus cell was starved in culture to arrest development (G0). The enucleated host oocyte was metaphase II and treated with mitosis promoting factor. The effect was to restore totipotency.
