Should I only depend on the syllabus whilst studying as a guide? What if I'll be asked on things that aren't on the syllabus. Meh I am just a bit confused. Thanks.

It depends on what subjects you're studying, but you most likely won't be asked things that aren't on the syllabus as you're not expected to learn them
