I sent a cheque to somebody out of good heart the other week. To cut a long story short, several arguments have ensued between us which resulted in him sending me abusive text messages. I no longer want him to have the cheque and want to cancel it, but I unfortunately don't have the cheque number. I keep texting him to ask him to give me the cheque number or to send the cheque back, but he says he is refusing to read any text I'm sending and is just deleting everything. I'm at a loss at what to do.

It says online that the cheque number is a requirement if you want to cancel a cheque, but I am just wondering if there was another way.

    Thanks.

Haven't you got the stub for the cheque? If not… the best thing to do would be to cancel your chequebook and inform the bank it's been lost or stolen. That way, the cheque shouldn't process.

I haven't got the stub, nope. Thanks for the advice

I'm just wondering.. would it be a police matter that he's refusing to cooperate/respond my giving me the cheque number or sending the cheque back?

That's a fair point. It could well be. Best of luck OP
