have lots of vit C, but there's nothing really that can be done.

This sort of thing is very common around exam time- pressure and stress, as well as concentrating on one thing without a break for too long can all lower your immune system, and make you more susceptible to bugs.

Make sure you're getting a good night's rest every night, eat properly, maybe take multi-vitamins? Vitamin C is definitely recommended. Plenty of fluids (seems to be the cure-all solution really!).

Oh, and covonia cough-syrup works a treat, I've found!

a shot of conac before you goto bed.

Cough and cold medicines don't cure ANYTHING, but Lemsip Max makes the syptoms less bad.

Vitamin C, hot drinks, eat well, drink lots, keep warm, take zinc.

Zinc is the most important of those because it helps your immune system and can make you recover from a cold in half the time.

silence
over the last 24 hours i've started getting cold symptoms and woke up with a sore throat.

not a big deal at all but it's exam season and i've got my next one on friday - would rather get rid of any bug before it comes by then than give a bug time to develop.

what are the best products out there for getting rid of sore throat and cold symptoms?

How about those vicks sweets you can suck on?

Echinacea
I don't care if it's a placebo, if it works, it works.

Try that Vicks nasal spray stuff, its called First Defence
Its to try and stop the cold symptoms from getting worse when they first start. Ive tried it myself on a few ocassions and it does actually work, you need to use it early enough though

Lemsip Breathe Easy is fantastic stuff. All the paracetamol goodness of normal Lemsip, but with added menthol for extra tube-clearing action. :yy:

Reply 10

For the sore throat - Try mixing honey and lemon with hot water, if u can handle the taste, you can crush a paracetamol and add it in if you want to (but dont over do it)

Otherwise I always find that beechams 3 in 1 cough syrup is quite good

But if it is in the early stages I suggest the Honey and lemon

all the best

have...to...fight the urge..

Gargle Paracetemol

Reply 12

sore throat-gargle salt water or drink honey and lemon
cold-plenty of water and sleep

Reply 13

Lots of hot water with a slice of lemon and spoonful of honey! Will sooth and kill the bacteria at the same time:smile:

Sudafed Vapouriser. It makes the whole room smell of menthol and eucalyptus when you plug it in and everyone will hate you but you'll be able to breathe!

Reply 15

do you smoke? Im not going to give you a rant about smoking.

If you smoke a great way to help your sore throat find yourself some fresh lavender buds roll it into a cigarette and smoke it, it works wonders on your throat and kills any cough you may have

wow thats such a good idea!

Gargling diluted TCP is good to relieve the pain of the sore throat. Tastes like crap, though.

Reply 18

I'd defintely suggest Lemsip day and night capsules and have plenty of orange juice. Hope you get well soon

A very hot bath in an enclosed space. Steam clears your throat and lungs and the temperature helps "burn" it out.
I know thats exceptionally unscientific but it works. Cold/cough cures in the sense of medicine is non-existant. Just vitamins, hot baths and steam. And tea. Lots of tea.
