try drinking some milk if you don't have any meds to hand. Also a lot of people find that tomatoes and chocolate make it a lot worse.

Got this from wiki:
Foods that may cause heartburn:

Alcohol, especially Red wine.
Coffee, tea, cola, and other caffeinated beverages
Sodas (including cola), and other carbonated beverages
Chocolate
Citrus fruits and juices
Tomatoes and tomato sauces (such as pizza and pasta sauce)
Spicy foods
Red pepper (capsicum)
Peppermint and spearmint
Dry foods such as peanuts
Fatty foods such as ice cream
Drugs are also known to cause or trigger heartburn symptoms.

Tobacco products (cigarettes, snuff, etc.)
Cocaine, and especially Meth is known to trigger heartburn.
It can also be psychosomatic, primarily in relation to stress.

To treat it at home:
Water
Some have suggested that drinking a large glass of water dilutes the low pH (acidic) levels in the stomach and allows the pain to temporarily subside.

Hard Candy
Sucking on a piece of hard candy can also diminish heartburn (although symptoms may reappear shortly after the candy has dissolved). This temporary remedy may work because the candy induces constant swallowing, preventing gastric acid from rising up the esophagus.
