Braun or Philips for epilators?

I don't know which brand to get.. Braun's have the easy start set which sounds quite good, but Philips have the ice. I want to spend under £50 and it would be my first one so maybe less incase i don't like it.

What do people use?

I was looking at:

Philips Satinelle Epilator HP6408

Braun X'elle EastStart BodySystem SE5280

Braun X'elle EasyStart Body & Face 5580 Epilator

Philips Satinelle Ice HP6491 Epilator

Any other recommendations? Are these ones any good? Help will be really appreciated, especially with summer and short skirts coming!

I've got the Satinelle Ice, and it's not too bad (though I'm new to it, so it still hurts like a bitch ) But I hear the Brauns are the best...

I bought the Braun SP3170 off eBay [tho not this shop, the one I got it from was £17.99 buy-it-now]. I very nearly bought one of the Braun X'elle kits but then realised the money's not worth it - after speaking to a lot of people and reading a lot of reviews a single epilator from Braun is just as good. I've since used it - no pain or anything, but I did used to wax and I have very weak roots - it's fantastic and only cost me £24.50 with p+p so way more affordable.

I would also say definitely go Braun as it has the best reputation around for epilators.

Ive had two Braun epilators (my first one the plastic head broke so I had to change it for a newer model as they'd discontinued my original one), and theyre both excellent

I've heard that Braun does the best ones, but I still like my Philips one nonetheless

In my honest opinion, whether you use the massaging/beginner caps etc with the epilator, the first few times are still going to hurt A LOT.

I don't know about the ice pack & if that makes any difference, but someone posted on another thread about it being a bother having to remember to put the thing in the freezer & allowing it to freeze (or something along the lines of...)

I've got a Braun epilator, but it's an older model which I started using about 7 years ago ( that makes me feel old) & still works perfectly.

I've got the Silk-epil from Braun and that comes with a cooling glove that you can stick in the freezer

I have the philips one with ice pack. It's pretty good, though as yet I haven't used the ice pack, it's too much of a hassle having to put it in the freezer and wait. Although if you keep the epilator in quite a cool place, the ice pack (metal type bit) is cool anyway and helps a little.

It's a bit rubbish, with just a teeny numbing effect. Besides, you get less pain epilating when your legs are warm. So...

My Routine
1 - have a hot shower
2 - epilate without exposing your legs to cold air
3 - get back in the shower and exfoliate with a scrub or shower puff
4 - rinse off in warm water
5 - run cold water on your legs for 30-60 seconds
6 - pat dry and moisturise

And my vote goes to Braun; I've had their Silk‧épil since Sept 2005 and it's fab!
