    Hi,

    I have a question that is from the A2 OCR Physics A text book. It is on page 13.

    A basic air rifle fires slugs of mass 0.50g at a velocity 160ms⁻¹
    a) If rifle has a mass 0.8kg and is free to move what is the recoil speed.
    b) Normally the rifle is held, what mean force does the person experience to prevent the rifle recoiling more than 0.5mm when he fires it.

    I have the answer to a) it is 0.1ms⁻¹, however I am not sure how to work out a force with this information?

    Think about the deceleration of the rifle from the instant the slug is fired.

    The question says on average so the rifle decelerates from 0.1m/s to 0 in a distance of 0.5mm.

    s = (\frac{u + v}{2})t

    a = \frac{dv}{dt}
