    Hi there,
I'm interested in becoming a Speech and language therapist, but as someone that is very squeamish I was wondering if anyone could advise whether this would be an issue when undertaking a degree in this area? Blood and watching operations makes me feel very queasy
Many thanks for any advice! Laura

That really shouldn't be an issue. If you work in a hospital you may be around when blood is being taken, or patients with visible surgical scars etc but generally your job would not involve anything that would make you squeamish.

Be careful which courses you apply for. Manchester, Sheffield, and Newcastle involve doing dissections of the throat on human cadavers. If you study at a place with no medical school, you won't have to do this.

Within SLT there are certain areas that you might struggle to cope with (managing tracheostomy patients, for example) but these are very specialised areas and there are plenty of other jobs to choose from.
