Hi, Im thinking about going to the doctors to talk about social anxiety. Does anyone know what this would be like? Can GP's diagnose you there and then or would you need several follow up appointments before they would be prepared to do that? Would they ask you questions or expect me to direct the conversation? Thank you

    Definitely see a doctor.

They should be sympathetic and helpful. No need to worry.

I think they might refer you to a counsellor or give you medication.

    - They ask you questions such as.... how long have you been feeling this way? how does it affect your life? what symptoms are you having? how are you coping with it? etc etc depending on your gp and how good they are lol

    - they can diagnose you

    - You will have to make the initial move I.e mentioning you think you have anxiety but then after that they will direct it and ask you stuff then give suggestions. They may suggest self help (excercise, diet, less alcohol etc), counselling, medication.... All, none, or a combination.

It's not so bad really... good luck!
