Hopefully this will be the least controversial of the three I have proposed

Nay, the house is hardly active enough to permit an increase in seats.

Yes, we have had a growing house- and as such our MP numbers need to increase in line with this!

I see the merits but I worry this would make the establishment too big.

    1) Increases the chance of by-elections
    2) I'd argue we have the membership for it considering we have the Nat Libs now

I disagree. It'd be likely that the establishment would not be able to hold all their seats and keep activity up, thus forcing by-elections

I'm willing to say we trial it for the next parliament based on your, and adam's arguments, and if it fails we go back to 50, would that be agreeable for you and your seconders?

    It still needs 2 months.

That would sound like a reasonable argument; however, under what merits do you decide if the trial is a success, or a failure?

True. If Ray starts rolling reviews rather than monthly reviews, we may be able to decrease the time. Either way, 2 months isnt too bad

    It's 1/3 of a term.

Well we could look at a number of factors, one would be number of mps voting, if over 50-55 mps consistently vote I think that shows there is voting activity worthy of the mp increase, and I think we can also judge on if the debating activity increases in the house with more people being mps and therefore feeling more involved.

I would suggest that should a seat get less then 50% in one month then it can be put up,for an instant by.

It'd still be a separate amendment (one I'd be willing to second) which shouldn't have any baring on this amendment
