What do you think is more important, doing a degree you enjoy or doing a degree that'll guarantee a well paid job?

That depends on the context. If the degree you enjoy has 0 chance of getting you a job *cough* philosophy *cough* then you may as well stay at home all day, watching anime and maturating however I really wouldn't want to base my future on field I didn't enjoy.

    The former.

Philosophy has a lower than average unemployment rate and higher than average starting salary.

Degrees with guaranteed jobs that you don't enjoy usually lead you to a job that you don't enjoy. Do you really want to be miserable for the next 45-50 years? Trust me when I say that the misery of a job you don't enjoy is all pervasive - you're always miserable because you are either at work, have just come home from work, or are about to return to work. You might find a small window of happiness on a Saturday afternoon, if you're lucky, but that's about it. Money never, ever makes up for that. Having had jobs that I've hated and jobs I've loved, I would much sooner enjoy my job than be well paid.

Always, always, always do a degree you enjoy. Remember that 70% of graduate jobs will accept a degree in any subject - there will always be lots of opportunities out there.

It's a tough question to answer as most graduate jobs will accept a variety of degrees.

But I will make the point that there's nothing wrong with aiming for something well paid. Few people are going to be passionate about some meaningful low paid career.

    Some great points above.

To summarise. Obviously try and pick something that yeh enjoy but also you can get a job in.

In reality working isnt supposed to be fun so most jobs wont be.

Enjoyment over money any day, but ensure yeh can get a job with your degree and the job is as enjoyable as the degree subject.

Aside from Medicine no degree guarentees a well paid job.
