You must average a 4 in higher level subjects. So a total of 12 from maths, italian and english.

Reply 2

you need 12 overall in your HL - at least that's what i think.... and if you get a 2 in a HL then you automatically fail your diploma

but if you get a 3 in Maths and 12 points overall for all of your HL's then your fine.

12 - 3 = 9

so i need a 4 and a 5 ??

i heard that u needed a 5 and a 6 in your other hl's if u get a 3 in one of them :s-smilie:

Well, I think its 12 overall and at least 3 in each. Here you have what Wikipedia says about it:
* at least three subjects are completed at Higher Level (HL) and three at Standard Level (SL).
o should four subjects be completed at HL then only two need be completed at SL.
* all six subjects have been awarded a numerical grade higher than 1, with a minimum total score of 24.
* the CAS (Creativity - Action - Service; community service) requirement of 150 hours has been completed
* the Extended Essay and TOK course have been completed and essays submitted.
o additionally a grade D or better has been awarded in either the Extended Essay or TOK.
* if the overall score is 24-27, there is no grade 2 at HL and not more than one grade 2 at SL; if the overall score is greater than or equal to 28, not more than one grade 2 at HL and no more than two grades 2 at SL; altogether, there are no more than three grades 3 or below
* at least 12 points (12 for overall score 24-27; 16 if four HL subjects are taken) have been gained on HL subjects, and 9/8 (6/5 if only two SL subjects are taken) on SL subjects
* the final award committee has not judged the candidate to be guilty of malpractice

And in Math HL you need about 30% to have 3, so it's really highly unlikely to get lower then that.
I think you are just panicking after the exam, I am sure it wasn't as bad as you think right now.

lol ud be suprised, our school totally messsed up with the HL maths last year, finishing sylabus in easter etc, we had a handful of 3s and a 2 from one student, i mean bearing in mind even getting 30% in the exams and doing nothing else would secure you a 3 i find it quite impressive that some candidates manage a two...

my school had a lot of 3s last year as well for maths hl. iirc no one got above a 4. i dont understand why, as they all got 6s in their portfolio (after moderation); we have the same teachers as they did and frankly i have found that maths is the only subject decently taught at my school :s-smilie:
i just hope we wont end up like that this year.

anyway, to sum it up, if you fail maths hl, ie get a 2 or lower. its bye bye diploma, but you still get a certificate for all the subjects you have done. if you get a 3, just pray the rest of your hls add up to 9 points or more

i haven't even thought about getting lower than 6s in my hls, crikey!! what if i do :eek: *dies*

If your total IB score is 28 or above, you're allowed one failing condition.

So, even if you get a 2 in Maths HL, if you score more than 27 points altogether, your Diploma should be safe.

thx ppl

Reply 9

Did you know that you could get 39 points and still fail your diploma?
7 in all subjects but 1 in which you get a 1, and the tree extra points.
Weird, huh?

Reply 10

You could also get a 45 and fail because they caught you bribeing all the examiners.

Reply 11

ehm..... offtopic ? :P

btw, so i'm safe if i get decent grades on other subjects and my hl's add up to 12 ?

Reply 12

yes, as long as you don't get a 2 in maths AND less than 28 points overall.
