It's a great movie. Sadly not as historically accurate as one would hope, but the story is amazing and the score is the best I've ever heard.

Queston for Scots: Does Mel Gibson sound like an American trying really hard to sound like a Scot? or is his accent actually good?

I liked it a lot. Mainly 'cos I like anything medieval. It can be the *****iest film but if it's in a medieval setting, I'll like it.

I really thought he was Australian, but he only moved there as a kid! Anyway, his natural accent used to be very Australian but now it's more American.

Either way, his "Scottish" accent is absolutely terrible.

Still a good film though, as long as you don't care about actual history!

    One of my favourite movies.

"All men die, not all men truly live".

Historically it is nonsense but it is a fantastic movie - even if the weapon he is holding magically changes several times in the scene where he runs towards the opposing army

How does it feels like having a yank play your national hero?

Didn't bother me, it was just a movie and it was pretty historically inaccurate anyway and isn't he Australian?

Yes the Patriot is good too. A little anti-English but there's a lot of truth to it.

If you want a cinematic blood filled vent at the British whilst admiring the underdog, this movie is for you. Mad Max in Scotland sums it up.

On the other hand it's also full of testosterone, full of Gibson's ego and full of crap:

The villains are one-dimensional, the morality is stereotyped black and white and history is altered to the point of exaggeration and distortion; Wallace was not a strategist, he was an opportunist and also a butcher both of which are conveniently forgotten for artistic licence.

Great for entertainment value, but be under no illusion that this in any way portrays historical fact. File under fiction.

We watched it in history for some reason, even though it is wildly historically inaccurate
