Of course it happens. What else is a retainer for? :s-smilie:

Well, I suppose so, but is it likely if I've been wearing the retainer for, I'd say two or three years afterwards?

If your retainers don't fit then your teeth have obviously moved.

Yeah your teeth can move back out of place if you don't look after them. You should see your orthodontist if your retainer doesn't fit!

your teeth can still move.. they've been pulled from where they happily were!

i wouldn't worry about it much.. if they are moving, it's probably not even noticable. i know after i stopped wearing my retainer (becuase my teeth had moved too much for it to fit!) and i was eating food, it always felt like they were moving.. but i doubt you can even notice.

they will 'set' into place eventually. i had my braces off 4 years ago, and stopped wearing my retainer 3 years ago (i only had the braces on 7 months) but i'm sure my teeth still move.

if you are worried though, go back to your dentist.

I would see the Orthodontist ASAP. He'll probably be of more assistance than us.

Yes it does happen. Orthodontists don't tell you to wear retainers at night for nothing, they tell you to do it for a reason.

Being in a similar situation, having to wear a retainer, I find that if I don't wear my retainer for one night my retainer wont fit me properly the next. That's how fast your teeth can move. In a space of 24 hours, I can see and feel a change in my teeth, god knows what it would be like after months of not wearing one.

Go and see your orthodontist and see what they say. As soon as your retainer didn't feel right you should have phoned them straight away. If you don't wear your retainer what was the point in you wearing braces? Your teeth just move back into their old position and everything you went through was a complete waste of time.

It does happen, happened to me. And I wore my retainer all the time until I was told I didnt need to, and even then it still happened. So my teeth are really crooked again now, which sort of defeats the object of having the braces in the first place

I believe you can have a wire placed around the back of your teeth to stop them moving any further, discuss it with your dentist to see if it would be suitable for you

I guess I was lucky that my teeth didn't move much at all even though I only wore the retainer for a couple of months afterwards instead of the suggested few years, lol.
