If you achieve an A* or an A in A2 then it is definitely possible to achieve an A and indeed an A* overall if the AS doesn't count to your final grade. However if your AS grade does account to around 50% of your mark then it is unlikely that you can achieve an A* overall. You can still get an A if you work hard for it though - the best way to do this is by continually reading over what you have done in class and using exam questions to get an understanding of what the examiner want to see on your paper. Don't settle for anything less than what you want to get or you will suffer regret.

The way it works for me is if you have 90% average over your A2 modules and 80% average over AS and A2 (both count for 50% of the A level) then you get an A*. So with your AS grade it's 100% possible to get an A*. So if you pull your grade up to above an A this year you'll get an A. I have no tips but just consider the system to choose your goal

Past papers are a crucial revision method.
Most questions on exam papers are taken from other past papers and reworded slightly as examiners use these past paper questions to pass the criteria on what a question needs to have. Examiners are just lazy.
Do every past paper, an do them again and again until you complete each exam getting every question correct and you'll stand a good chance of a high grade
