Every evening the 3 other people I share with all want to socialise and watch TV and cook together.
I was nice the first few times, but after a long day at work I actually just want to do my own things and not have to spend most of the evening watching Breaking bad or whatever.
The thing is when I say I've got something to do it can be really awkward, so I end up watching tv with them and wasting time. Saying no will damage our friendship I think, which is a shame as they're great people.

Maybe next time, fire a warning shot, like "tomorrow I won't be able to hang out, I have so much to do" and then just get on and do it. Eventually they'll get used to it. It's all about setting boundaries in a house share .

Everyone once in a while, that would work. However, I'd like to socialise once or twice a week and that is where the problem lies, as I think I would create a divide by doing this.

Then when they are all sat around watching TV, tell them what you just wrote. You love their company, and don't want to damage the friendship, but you needs some alone time/time to study/socialise with others/play computer games in your darkened room. If they are your friends, they will understand. If they will only be friends with you on their terms, they aren't your friends at all.

I live with a friend, and we work brilliantly together. We help each other out, and have our own lives but still get together regularly. We just agreed to always talk lots about how it was working and be honest and upfront with each other.
