Hi, I'm 22 and I don't like messing with hormones (I took cerazette/cerelle twice and was fine on them but I don't want to take them again if I can help it) I was looking at the coil as it was the only proper non-hormonal one (the IUD) and I wondered if anyone could give me their story if they have used this contraceptive?
I had one fitted at 16 and begged to have it out the next day but I was young and very unprepared. I can handle a bit of pain and bleeding but if it lasts ages I'd want it out.

    Thanks

They can be painful at first but that should settle. Lots of coils now come with hormones but they really only act locally. You may want to check before they put one in if you're really averse to it.

There are lots of places on TSR where people have discussed it:

This is a good start for finding real stories .

Unfortunately my story isn't great as I had to have it removed within an hour, however it seems that those who have had a child have much better experiences with less pain. I had a friend who had it inserted and dealt with the pain for a while and loves it, shes never had a child, it's worth a try!

Thank you! I'm gonna try and go see someone at a family planning clinic next week but it looks like the coil is my only option if I want something non-hormonal.
