Lord of the flies

I've left my lord of the flies revision for english literature rather late and I've got the exam on tuesday :s-smilie: I have spent loads of time going through the poetry and inpsector calls but haven't even started lord of the flies yet and time is running out. I have the york notes but I just wondered if people could help me with some essential quotes or scenes that are important.

hey

I am doing the same book as you and my exam is on tuesday too, one way of revising that is effective is to make small cards, and write down important quotes for each main character and each main theme ( use the york notes to get the main info), therefore you have covered a lot that might be asked in the exam. So far, I have revised the complete opposite way, by revising Lord of the Flies first and not really revised much of the poems. What do you think is the most effective and efficient way to learn them?

BBC Bitesize has information about LOTF.

I have re-read LOTF, Made notes on themes, characters and the general plot regarding my LOTF revision. Concerning the poems, CGP sell i really good book analysing theanthology poem by poem, but if you dont want to pay im sure there are some grerat websites on the internet. I know bitesize covers the poems rom different cultures.

Key scenes are
Simons death- shows the climax of savage behaviour. Simon is also though of as a christ/god like figure so it emphasis the savage.

Piggys death- loss of civilization. Savage has taken over.

Symbols
Conch- The conch show democracy but as the book progresses the conch is lost and Jacks sword takes over.
"Waved his sword"
"We don't need the conch anymore"

Key Quotes
" his passoniate willingness to carry the conch against all odds"-Piggy
"like a pack of kids" -Piggy
"I am not playing anymore" -Jack. Shows they are still only children.

Thanks Turgon and same jeans

Good thing to look at is how the description of the island changes as the book progresses. The conch doesn't just disappear - it also fades in colour...good thing to mention.

Gold for poems.

For the poems though, i really hope that one of the choices is comparing emotion in 1 Heaney, 1 Clarke and 2 pre-1914 cause then i'm sorted...

Hmm, you got told that as well? I just looked at the past papers and only 1/3 of the questions are in that structure :s-smilie: The rest are quite similar, but you got to compare 2 poems with each other, then compare another 2 on a slightly different subject :s-smilie:

I really hope there is a good question on comparing all 4 together. for the two part ones you have to write more whilst in the one where you compare them all together you can write in depth about 3 and touch on the third.

Has anyone recognised any patterns in the questions, any good guesses as to what will be asked this year?

has anyone got any earlier questions than 2004? or where i can find some? oh and on question 22 for 2006 do you compare them all together?

Reply 15

You pick 2 poems from post-1914 and 2 from pre-1914, and compare what it asks in the Q. Same as Q21 really.

hey guys, i got the exam tomoz, really scared, i revised loads but i cant articulate what i want to say and put it into essay structure!!! any tips?

I totally forgot I put this post up  I have revised a bit more for english now and re read lord of the flies and thought about some of the symbols. Just need to look at the fire and some stuff for that. I did 5 past paper questions for my tutor and he said he didn't like to grade but said I've got nothing to worry about and I should have a relax tonight - apparently I've done enough work! I think I'm just going to skim over my notes and stuff for an hour before I go to bed.

Has anyone's teacher told them what they predict will be on the exam?
