Well, it's a two hour train journey each way, and the cost of an annual railpass isn't going to be significantly less than the cost of accommodation at current prices...

I imagine a season ticket for this journey would cost more than what most students could afford.

On the train you should either sleep or study. but i think it may take longer than 2 hours door to door.

I personally wouldn't do it if i was at university cause that 3 long years when i would be relaxing ( of course studying aswell ) although i do regularly commute from Barcelona to London for 6 form with flights as low as £5 but its nearly summer so it will rise.

    Possible? Yes.

    Cheap? No.

    Pleasant? No.

Quite frankly you'd probably spend more on the travel each year than you'd save by living at home! Just a quick search and if you bought a season ticket for your years travel you'd be looking somewhere in the region of £4500 to £5000 for the rail travel.

About £4500 for the 9 months it'll be needed for.

    Pretty much

    £5,404 for a 12 month season ticket from Waterloo-Southampton

Which to be fair is only £36 a day (for 5 days a week 30 weeks a year) so not extortionate.

You'd also need to get a unilink bus pass (another £375 for the year) to get from the station to uni

You'd be looking at the 7am/7:10am train from Waterloo to get into parkway in time to make it to campus by 9am

More like £4,700 (but probably more given the dates aren't likely to fit into neat 6month/3month slots)...unless OP is planning on taking the irregular and slow trains to Victoria with Southern trains....cheaper but not a great option

At least you are going FROM London to Southampton so the train shouldn't be so busy.

They put the short trains on that early though.

And if you pick the standard class carriage with power sockets you're out of range of the wifi (and the phone signal is awful)

    Gah!

I'd have thought they would be sending down long trains to come back full, but I guess they keep carriages ready in Southampton for the morning London-bound commute. And they would return to S'ton in the evening.

    Clever these fat controllers are...
