I have this really competitive personality and cant stand when my friend does better than me. She always bunks lesson, comes late and still does well because she pays so much for tuition!
What can I do to improve my grades/ to get over this competitiveness?

Hi- I feel your pain! I'm quite a competitive person who always revises for tests and I find it infuriating when someone who obviously hasn't revised (they've been partying/watching tv all day whilst I'm just stuck in my room revising 24:7) still manages to easily get a higher grade than me. Improving grades wise, just keep revising, ask for help if you need it, all the usual stuff. But more importantly, I think you should not lose your competitiveness- I think it's good to be competitive as it's makes people more determined to succeed. This is just my opinion though.

I'm not really competitive (maybe I should be?) nor am I very academic, but I work damn hard for my grades and I do well. I'm really strict with my studying style and a bit OCD when it comes to taking breaks and socialising. I think it's healthy to be competitive, but not at the expense of possibly losing a good friendship? I think you need to keep yourself grounded and focus on what YOU want to achieve and not what your friends achieve. At the end of the day will your friend's grades help you progress socially/academically? Probably not. I'm sure throughout your professional career there will always be that one person who will trump everyone and ace everything; with what seems to be little to no effect whatsoever. If your mate does well, be happy for them. Don't let the green-eyed monster poke its ugly head out. Good luck with your studies.Last edited by Mint_Tea; 25-02-2016 at 21:25.
