Get your teacher to do it. Don't spend more money than you have to. His job is to teach you, not charge you rediculous amounts to read and tick a few bits here and there.

WTF??? That is not fair. I have never heard of any English tutors charging students separately to check an essay. He is just making money out of you. He will probably ask you to write more essays so you can pay him to check them.

He can charge whatever he likes, but the issue is whether or not it was clear that he would expect payment from marking an essay outside of your tuition time.

I charge £30 an hour for tuition so if the essasy takes 15 minutes to mark it would not be entirely unreasonable to charge £7.50. Although personally I would only charge if I made it clear beforehand.

if it took him time outside of your paid sessions then he is entitled to ask for payment, he should have definitely told you before hand though

i know for sure never to ask him again, which is a huge shame because my exams are coming up i a few months and this just shows how much people want other people's money,

I'm very sure your teacher won't mind marking it. Especially if they see it as you taking the initiative to do extra work outside of school, they'll probably be impressed and more inclined to mark it. £7.50 is hilariously steep to read a mark scheme and allocate marks. Take it to your teacher :yep:
