    Hey Everyone!
I'm struggling with my A-level Lit Coursework as a) its on 1984 and in my opinion it is a dull book, b) we have to compare and contrast it against another dystopian novel, I have chosen the Hunger Games as I understand the plot. My question is "There are no heroes in the Hunger Games and 1984, discuss with references to SFL, Tone and Characterisation". Now I know the basis of my argument- there are no heroes in 1984, I find Winston to be an utterly rubbish character , and there are many heroes in the Hunger Games . Can anyone help me with the SFL, Tone and Characterisation bit?

Well Characterisation: description that leads you to believe Winston is a dodgy character/not a hero. And the same for anyone in Hunger Games. This is going to be quite similar to Tone. Like one word might create a negative about the character that leads you to believe they can't be a hero.
SF: this is going to be a little bit more difficult, but I'd look at Campbell's book about heroes and the structure of heroic stories to then help you decide if the novels are keeping with traditional structures and forms of heroic literature, and if not, why.
    Hope this helps
