The ductus arteriosus is like a little shortcut for blood to bypass the lungs in the foetus (as you don't need your lungs to breathe in the womb), but it should close shortly after birth. Having a patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) is a common congenital heart defect in premature babies. It's normally corrected, either with medication, or with surgery while children are still neonates. Do you know if you've had yours corrected? If it was closed while you were little then it shouldn't have any effect on your health in adulthood.

The British Heart Foundation can be really helpful, maybe get in touch with them if you're after more information. There's contact details and some information about congenital heart disease here: https://www.bhf.org.uk/heart-health/...-heart-disease
