Cystitis - advice please

I've got cystitis and feel like I'm dying. Slight exaggeration, but you get the idea. Have finally bought some "cystitis relief" sachets from Boots, which should help, but I'm struggling to drink the water mixture as it tastes bloody horrible.

Can I add anything to the stuff to mask the taste, or would that ruin the point of it? I mean, I know the stuff is meant to help make urine less acidic, so if I added, say, cordial, to it, and that was acidic (I don't know the pH of anything), well, that would defeat the purpose, surely.

Anyone know? Or am I doomed to choke down this horrible horrible mix as it is?

Edited to say: Not that I'm in the mood for sex, feeling so bloody miserable, but this stuff shouldn't interfere with the pill, should it?

You need to go to the doctor

It's my life
You need to go to the doctor

Why?

I've already been to see a qualified chemist and she says there is no need to see a doctor if my symptoms clear up after taking the course of relief sachets. I'm just asking if there's any way to make them not taste so damn vile without compromising the medicinal effects!!

Well it's either that or carry on suffering it won't get better otherwise.

Drink cranberry juice.

I was also going to say drink cranberry juice. You can get pineapple flavoured tablets for cystitis in Boots too if you don't like the sachets! They also have a cranberry liquid behind the counter.

Edit: I work as a healthcare assistant in Boots just in case you think i'm a regular sufferer :P

Hi, I have loads of suggestions. I used to get cystitis ALL the time! I have it occassionally. I went to the doctors and they were useless. Basically I began with the crystal stuff, I used to add orange juice with it to take the gross taste away. I also tried drinking cranberry juice but didnt work that well, I also used to take caniston duo, the oral pill, which is for thrush but Cystitis is a type of yeast infections. I have loads of other tips as well, if you would like any more information just get in touch with me ) xx

Ooh, can I mix fruit juice with the sachets? Because that would really help!!

Honestly, I just feel so miserable. :frown: I know the sachet stuff should help, but swallowing it is nearly as bad as having the cystitis in the first place. And I can't drink cranberry juice - I'm mildly allergic to it. Does anything else have a similar effect?

I've been trying to drink lots of water, but I'm not seeing much improvement. This is just really frustrating. :frown:

I mixed the sachet with watered down orange juice and that got rid of the taste  Seemed to still work. Just make sure you take the whole course.

I've got this to at the moment, i'm taking sachets from the pound shop lol, lemon flavoured, think they're really nice and of course cranberry juice, in the past this combination as cleared it up in 2-3 days.

Also no it will not effect you being on the pill.

Um...is juice not really acidic!? I used to get it all the time, and just ended up going to the doctors and getting anti biotics.

The only thing that really helps is antibiotics. I had it reccurring for about a year, and eventually it turned out that the infection I had was too resiliant to be affected by the sachet things AND the damn antibiotics they gave me. Different set of antibiotics later it was all better. I can't remember whether the sachet things affect the pill or not, I know I never had a problem, however most antibiotics will.

If it can be cleared up using relief sachets etc. then that's better than going straight for the antibiotics!

Yah, that is why I watered down the juice or put it in cranberry juice  The first time I had it I got antibiotics, then it came back but I cleared it up with the sachets.

If it persists after the course of sachets, then go to the docs.

When I had cystitis I had the sachets mixed up in normal water, and a huge glass of weak orange squash...I drank the sachet down in one becuase the more times I stopped the harder it was for me to start to drin it again...and as soon as Id drunk it I drank the pint of orange squash..

next time I might try the sachets in the orange squash...

You need to drink lots and lots of water.
Drink quite a lot of cranberry juice.
You need to go to the toilet to pee as soon as you need to, don't hold it in.
Also, avoid fizzy juice - it makes it worse

Eventually, it will clear itself up.
